Women Excelling at BLG

At Borden Ladner Gervais LLP (BLG), our passion and drive go beyond the transaction, contract or case at hand to expanding horizons for women in our Firm and the business community as a whole. We are committed to affording women full opportunity to develop, excel and become pre-eminent in their fields.

Women are well represented at BLG. More than one-third of our professionals are women and several hold key leadership roles. We also have a Women's Leadership Development Committee (WLDC) whose mandate includes, amongst other matters:

• fostering the development of our women professionals as leaders in our Firm and the community through various channels including discussion groups, networking events and training;
• facilitating our women partners and associates in developing new clients and expanding relationships with existing clients and contacts – many of whom are also women; and
• acting as a vehicle through which our women can connect with community and other women's organizations.

To achieve its mandate, WLDC members meet regularly to share best practices, collaborate on business development and ensure that formal and informal mentoring is ongoing within BLG. The WLDC is active in the community with memberships in various organizations including Catalyst and the Women's Executive Network – the country's leading organization dedicated to the advancement and recognition of executive-minded women in the workplace.

Since 2008, BLG has been proud to be participating in The Justicia Project, a three-year pilot project of the Law Society of Upper Canada that is designed to help law firms identify and adopt principles and best practices to promote the retention and advancement of women. As part of this initiative, BLG has signed a written commitment to achieve goals in the following areas: maternity/parental leave policies, flexible work arrangements, networking and business development and mentoring and leadership skills.

BLG is dedicated to ensuring the success of women – both in the workplace and community at large. We look forward to continuing to promote the advancement of women in the years ahead.
