The Toronto office of Borden Ladner Gervais LLP, is seeking a Catering Host/Hostess in the Catering Department. This position requires putting our clients’ and guests’ needs first and foremost. The ideal candidate will possess a high degree of hospitality and attention to basic rules of etiquette and courtesy, a welcoming demeanor and a professional manner.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
- Experience in hospitality/restaurant/retail/customer service industry
- Working knowledge of accepted food service industry standards with regard to food sanitation, food handling and preparation, food and beverage set-up and service
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Become knowledgeable with the Firm’s required Best Practices in Food Service Procedures
- Become knowledgeable with the Firm’s required SmartServe procedures for alcohol service, and become Ontario SmartServe certified
- Prepare meeting rooms for food and beverage service, deliver, set-up and retrieve orders, perform clean-up and reset of meeting rooms when the meeting is finished according to the schedule in the in-house reservation system and organized by the supervisor
- Ensure that all table top items, including but not limited to linens, plates, cutlery and glassware are clean and presentable, properly set tables and related furniture for special events as instructed by the supervisor
- Become knowledgeable in efficient and comfortable floor and bar service during evening client events
- Perform housekeeping duties in meeting rooms, lounges, main servery, satellite kitchens and kitchen storage areas, replenish supplies in lunchrooms and other serving areas, and assist in receiving and storing deliveries
- Maintain a safe and orderly work area and perform all job duties in a safe manner, following all Firm safety policies and procedures
- Display excellent, friendly and helpful customer service to clients and guests
Present a well-groomed and neat appearance
- Perform other duties as directed by the supervisor
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS:
- As part of a team, possess excellent communication, co-ordination, organizational and interpersonal skills
- Excellent multi-tasking skills and adaptable to change
- Ability to work independently, understand and follow instructions with minimal supervision and take initiative in a fast-paced and demanding environment
- Ability to work at various levels with Firm personnel, clients, guests and outside suppliers in a professional manner
- Ability to anticipate client and guest needs
- Knowledgeable with MS Word, and the ability to effectively use the Firm’s boardroom bookings computer program
- Availability to work from 9am to 5pm, with flexibility to change shifts when necessary, availability to work overtime
- Ability to lift at least 20kg/50lbs
