Background
Rebecca Bush is a partner at our Toronto office. Rebecca was admitted to the Ontario Bar in 2002. She graduated from the University of Windsor's Faculty of Law in 2001.
In the summer of 2000, Rebecca attended the University of San Diego's Institute of International & Comparative Law at King's College, London, U.K. Here, she successfully completed a Certificate in International Business Transactions and International Litigation.
In 1998, she received an Honours Bachelor of Arts from the University of Toronto.
Areas of Practice
- Rebecca is a civil litigator practicing in the areas of municipal liability, police liability, malicious prosecution claims, occupier's liability, products liability and personal injury.
- Rebecca also has experience defending workplace based psychological harassment actions and defending mental distress damages claims in the employment and human rights context.
Professional Experience
- Has acted as lead and junior counsel on trials and appeals in the Ontario Superior Court of Justice and Ontario Court of Appeal in negligence, police liability, malicious prosecution and employment matters.
- Has acted as lead counsel on applications before the Human Rights Tribunal.
- Defends negligence claims against municipalities involving maintenance and design of roadways and sidewalks, construction projects and utilities.
- Defends police in actions for malicious prosecution, negligent investigation, false arrest and breach of Charter rights.
- Defends police in applications brought under the Human Rights Code.
- Advises and represents insurers in a wide range of casualty and property claims, including motor vehicle third party claims and occupiers' liability claims.
- Provides opinions to insurance and municipal clients on a variety of matters including statutory interpretation (ie. Municipal Act, Insurance Act, Public Authorities Protection Act, Negligence Act and Limitations Act).
- Advises clients regarding risk management issues.
