Background

Theresa Corneau is a Partner in the Ottawa Office. Theresa registered as a Trade-mark Agent in 1990, receiving the Intellectual Property Institute of Canada's Educational Foundation Prize for attaining the highest marks. She completed a Diploma in the F.I.T.T. (Foreign International Trade Training) Certification Program from Carleton University in June 2000. Theresa is a member of the Intellectual Property Group.

  • Extensive experience in all areas of Canadian and international trade-mark practice including searching, preparation and prosecution of trade-mark applications, opposition proceedings, trade-mark licensing and property right transfers.
  • Drafting and filing copyright matters, drafting of license agreements and preparing and presenting in-house trade-mark seminars to clients.

  • Published in the European Intellectual Property Review ("Famous Trade-marks: Such Great Names as These") and in Trade-mark World ("An International Look at Internet Domain Name Disputes: A Canadian Perspective").
  • Contributor to the Exporter's Guide to Intellectual Property being published by Industry Canada.
  • Co-author of paper, Do You Hear What I Hear, (A Review of case law dealing with the treatment of composite trademarks that are descriptive when sounded), Canadian Intellectual Property Review (C.I.P.R.), October 2003.
  • Chairperson for the Membership Committee of the Intellectual Property Institute of Canada (IPIC).
  • Member of the Trade-mark Examining Board.
  • Canadian Reporter for The Bulletin for the International Trade-mark Association (INTA).
  • Lectured and presented articles on various trade-mark issues in Canada both to Intellectual Property Practitioners and business audiences.
