Background
Peter Doody is a partner in the Ottawa Office. Peter graduated from Queen's University with a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Laws. He was called to the Bar of the Province of Ontario in 1982. Peter is Regional Leader of the Commercial Litigation Practice Group in Ottawa, and is the former Regional Managing Partner of the Ottawa office and the former Manager of the Ottawa Litigation Department. He has an active and varied litigation practice, with over 100 reported cases.

Professional Experience
- Counsel to the Right Honourable Jean Chrétien in a number of cases, including the Gomery Inquiry into the Sponsorship Program in 2004 and on the subsequent judicial review which set aside part of the fact-finding report on the basis of a reasonable apprehension of bias.
- Counsel to the Correctional Investigator of Canada in the Arbour Commission of Inquiry into the Prison for Women in 1995-96.
- Assistant Commission Counsel in the Parker Commission of Inquiry into allegations of conflict of interest in respect of Sinclair Stevens in 1986.
- Counsel to the Prime Minister and the Government of Canada in cases involving powers of government, constitutional law, access to information and Charter of Rights.
- Counsel in class actions, including as counsel for Ford dealers across Canada in an action which resulted in a successful $50 million settlement from Ford of Canada.
- Counsel to aboriginal groups and government authorities in cases involving land claims, improper surrender, breach of treaties and breach of s.35 of the Constitution Act, 1982.
- Appears as defence counsel in criminal cases, and has appeared before all levels of Courts, including the Supreme Court of Canada, in constitutional law, aboriginal law, and Charter of Rights cases.

- Past Lecturer: Constitutional Law, Conflict of Laws, Criminal Law and Civil Procedure at the University of Ottawa, Queen's University and Carleton University, and Advocacy and Creditors' and Debtors' Rights at the Bar Admission Course of the Law Society of Upper Canada.
