Background

Yves Dubois is a partner at our Montréal office. Yves was admitted to the Québec Bar in 1982 and is a graduate of the Université de Sherbrooke Law School. He also obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Political science (with honours) from Concordia University in 1978.

Areas of Practice

• Yves practises in the field of real estate and construction and has done so for almost 25 years. Through the years, he has specialized in those matters with sub-matters in administrative law, environmental law, municipal law and property assessments.
• Yves has acted and advised in diverse environmental matters including permitting, regulatory compliance, drafting of contractual provisions, risk management, due diligence planning and structuring, financing, purchase, sale and ownership of environmentally challenged property, assets and businesses as well as in defense of environmental claims including class action suits.
• Yves is also a recognized practitioner in property taxation and real estate appraisal and property assessment contestation having acted throughout his career in such matters in connection with institutional, commercial, hospital, residential and industrial properties.
• Yves has an expert knowledge of laws and rules which apply in government action, including statutory authorities governed by the Act respecting health services and social services and its Regulations.
• Yves also has a general corporate and commercial practice, advising private, public and multinational corporations on their management. He takes part in commercial contractual law matters as well as in mergers and acquisitions.
• Yves is the regional leader of our Municipal Law Group in Montréal.

Professional Experience

• Has acted as counsel to many real estate project developers during their organization of formal and corporate structure, acquisitions, construction and developing of those projects during their operation.
• Has has been involved in real estate projects as different as the construction and the establishment of industrial buildings, including a polytrimethylene terephtalate plant, an ethanol production plant, a cogeneration plant, an electricity generating wind power plant, some office buildings, shopping centres, apartment buildings, hotels, health facilities and municipal infrastructures.
• He acted on behalf of many owners of buildings and industrial building portfolios, of office or commercial buildings during negotiation of sale transactions.
• He acted as counsel for several health public facilities on all levels.
• He acted as senior counsel for an important player in the field of infrastructure construction in Québec.
• He has advised the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation on the structure and rollout of a mortgage loan securitization program in Quebec.
• Yves’ clients come from a diverse range of industries including construction, food processing, textiles, consumer products, electrical engineering and products, steel, pulp and paper, environmental protection and real estate.
• In addition, Yves is counsel to several not-for-profit corporations and foundations in the healthcare sector.
• Yves advises clients on a broad range of corporate, real estate and commercial law matters, including acquisitions and divestiture, municipal taxation and real estate appraisal in connection with institutional, industrial, commercial and residential properties as well as contractual provisions and risk management.
