Background

Nadia Effendi is a partner at our Ottawa office and is a member of the Commercial Litigation Practice Group and Appeal and Review Focus Group.

Nadia was called to the Ontario Bar in 2004 and to the New Brunswick Bar in 2006, is fluent in English and French, and practices in both official languages. Nadia regularly appears before all level of court on a wide variety of civil and public litigation matters, including: the Federal Court and Federal Court of Appeal; the Superior Court of Ontario, the Ontario Divisional Court and the Ontario Court of Appeal; and the Supreme Court of Canada. In addition, Nadia has also appeared before numerous administrative tribunals.

Nadia received her Bachelor of Laws (summa cum laude) from the University of Ottawa in 2003 and was the recipient of the Stikeman Elliott Prize and the Brown & Evans Book Prize (for highest standing in Administrative Law); the Osgoode Society for Canadian Legal History; the George W. Ainslie Memorial Prize; as well as the University Gold Medal, which is awarded to the student attaining the highest cumulative grade point average over the entire LL.B. program.

Following her studies, Nadia served as a law clerk for The Honourable Mr. Justice Bastarache at the Supreme Court of Canada before joining BLG.

Areas of Practice

  • Nadia is a member of BLG’s Commercial Litigation and Appeal and Review Groups.
  • Nadia’s practice is focused primarily in the area of civil and public law litigation, with an emphasis on representing clients in administrative law and commercial litigation matters.
  • Nadia is the Chair of BLG’s Supreme Court of Canada Agency Group and represents clients as their agent before the Supreme Court of Canada.
