Background

Mathieu Lévesque is a Partner at our Montréal office. He was admitted to the Quebec Bar in 2001 and is a graduate of Laval University Faculty of Law. He also obtained an MBA which he began at Laval University and completed at Clark University (AACSB) in Worcester, Massachusetts, in December 2000.

Areas of Practice

  • Mathieu is a member of our Financial Services Group, specializing in banking litigation, bankruptcy, insolvency and restructuring. He also practices in security and commercial litigation.

Professional Experience

  • Mathieu’s practice mainly involves advising financial institutions, secured or unsecured creditors, receivers and trustees with respect to the realization of security and their priority, bankruptcy and recovery of assets. He is also regularly involved in files implicating financial restructuring either supervised by the Court or not. Moreover, he acts for large and small businesses in commercial litigation or for debtors in financial difficulties.
  • He is involved in various anti-fraud mandates and has expertise with respect to the Bills of Exchange Act.
  • Mathieu is also involved in banking class action defence work.
  • Mathieu has also developed an expertise with respect to guaranteed loan programs offered by governmental agencies, including small business financing offered under the Canada Small Business Financing Act by Industry Canada as well as programs managed by Investissement Québec.

Professional and Community Activities

  • Member of the Ordre des administrateurs agréés du Québec (ADMA).
  • Member of the Canadian Bar Association (Bankruptcy and Insolvency Section of the Quebec Branch) and the Junior Bar Association of Montréal.
  • Member of the ACFE (the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners).
  • Made the Laval University Administration Faculty Honour Roll for excellence, both in his work and his results.
  • Volunteer for the Reading for Kids program since 2005.
