Background
Don MacDonald is a partner at our Vancouver office. He was admitted to the British Columbia Bar in 1981 and graduated from the University of Victoria with a Bachelor of Laws in 1980. Don received a Bachelor of Arts from St. Francis Xavier University in Antigonish, Nova Scotia, in 1971.
Areas of Practice
Don practices in the areas of commercial litigation (particularly real estate disputes), municipal law and expropriations.
Professional Experience
- Over thirty years experience in commercial litigation with an emphasis on real estate disputes, municipal law issues and expropriations.
- Has represented property owners, tenants, businesses on major infrastructure projects including Canada Line, Golden Ears Bridge, South Fraser Perimeter Road, Highway No. 1/Port Mann Bridge and the proposed Evergreen Line.
- Experienced as both advisor and counsel on a wide range of municipal matters including rezonings, subdivisions, official community plans, public hearings, development permits, building permits, development cost charges, business licenses, bylaw interpretation and non-conforming uses.
- Has appeared as counsel on civil trials, appeals, inquests, human rights hearings, arbitrations, expropriation proceedings and real property assessment appeals and has experience in various courts, including Federal, Provincial, Supreme and Appeal Court of British Columbia.
