Background
Mandy Moore is a Partner in the Ottawa office. Mandy attended Queen's University, where she received a Bachelor of Arts in Economics in 1997 and a Bachelor of Laws in 2000. She was called to the Bar of the Province of Ontario in 2002.
Mandy’s practice focuses primarily on international and domestic commercial arbitration and commercial litigation matters.
Mandy is the Regional Co-Chair of the International Trade and Arbitration Group, the Regional Chair of the Business Immigration Group and a member of the Commercial Litigation Group.
Areas of Practice
- International and domestic commercial arbitration;
- Commercial litigation;
- Business Immigration; and
- Administrative Law, with an emphasis on Access to Information Act litigation.
Professional Experience
- Counsel to the Prime Minister of Canada, the Minister of National Defence, the Minister of Transport and the Commissioner of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in a number of judicial review applications related to access to documents under the Access to Information Act;
- Counsel in a number of complex and high-value domestic and international commercial arbitrations and litigation matters, including:
- Counsel in a $330 million ad hoc arbitration in Canada governed by Ontario law over a malfunctioning telecommunications satellite, including related litigation in Ontario;
- Counsel in a $60 million ad hoc arbitration in Canada governed by Ontario law over performance incentive payments related to a malfunctioning telecommunications satellite;
- Counsel in a $10 million ad hoc domestic arbitration over a construction dispute;
- Counsel in a $2 million ad hoc domestic arbitration over an environmental remediation dispute;
- Counsel in various arbitration award enforcement proceedings in Ontario;
- Counsel to various clients in advising on the drafting of arbitration agreements;
- Counsel to various employers and individuals in a full range of services related to Canadian immigration and citizenship, including obtaining Canadian Work Permits and Labour Market Opinions, obtaining permission for spouses of temporary foreign workers to work in Canada, securing Temporary Resident Visas and Study Permits, Securing Temporary Resident Permits to overcome inadmissibility issues, acquiring and maintaining Permanent Resident status, obtaining Permanent Resident Cards, obtaining Canadian citizenship and facilitating U.S. consular processing on behalf of U.S. law firms.
- Counsel to the Canadian Museum of Civilization Corporation in a pay equity complaint by the P.S.A.C. before the Canadian Human Rights Tribunal and the Federal Court; and
- Mandy has made appearances as counsel in the Supreme Court of Canada, Federal Court of Appeal, Federal Court, the Ontario Court of Appeal, and the Superior Court of Justice.
