Background

John Morris is a partner at our Toronto office and National Coordinator for our Health Law Group.John was admitted to the Ontario Bar in 1983. He was awarded an LLB degree from Osgoode Hall Law School (1981). He is a recipient of the Walter Williston Award for legal scholarship.

Prior to that, he received a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) degree (1975) and Master of Arts degree (1977) from the University of Toronto. He was a member of the Advisory Committee to the Enquiry on Mental Competency commissioned by the Minister of Health in 1989.

John is a Graduate of the Harvard University Mediation Course, June 1998, and the Harvard Advanced Mediation Course, June 2007. He is an Adjunct Lecturer, Faculty of Law, Queen's University in Alternative Dispute Resolution (2004-2009) and is an Instructor for the Osgoode Professional Development Part-Time LLM in Health Law.

Areas of Practice

  • John has had a varied career in the practice of litigation. He has been counsel in cases involving claims of professional negligence, construction disputes and general commercial litigation.
  • In recent years, a significant focus of John's practice has been in the field of health law and medical negligence. He and other members of the Health Law Group act for over a hundred facilities in Ontario. Borden Ladner Gervais LLP is counsel to the Healthcare Insurance Reciprocal of Canada.
  • John has appeared before all levels of Court in Ontario as well as numerous health-related administrative tribunals.
