Background

Alexandra Nicol is an associate at our Montréal office. Ms. Nicol was admitted to the New York State Bar in 2002 and to the Québec Bar in 2003. Ms. Nicol graduated from the National Program of the McGill University Law School with a B.C.L. and a LL.B. and also holds a Bachelor of Commerce from McGill University. She is fluently bilingual and practices in both official languages.

Areas of Practice

• Ms. Nicol practices in our Corporate Commercial Group, specializing in various commercial regulatory matters.
• She is the National Leader of the Advertising and Sponsorship Group, and also Regional Leader of the Financial Services Regulatory Group. She is also an active member of the following practice groups: Privacy and Access to Information and Biotech and Pharmaceutical.

Professional Experience

• Advising clients from a variety of industries on marketing practices, advertising, labeling and packaging matters, including requirements under the Charter of the French Language, as well as reviewing clients’ advertising programs, the terms and conditions of customer loyalty programs and advertising contest rules, to ensure their compliance with the law, and suggesting changes as required.
• Advising clients on privacy law compliance matters, notably in the context of commercial operations, transactions, service provider agreements and otherwise.
• Advising clients on consumer protection matters and consumer credit matters, and reviewing contracts for large retailers, telecommunications companies and financial institutions (including credit card contracts), in order to ensure their compliance with the law, and suggesting changes as required.
• Advising pharmaceutical and other companies in respect of federal and provincial legislation and industry codes of conduct with respect to the marketing of drugs and medical devices.
• Advising clients in respect of the legislation governing members of various professional orders in Québec, particularly healthcare professionals.
• Advising clients on a variety of corporate matters, including drafting and revising commercial agreements.
