Background

André Royer is a partner at our Montréal office. Mr. Royer was admitted to the Québec Bar in 1987 and is a graduate of the Université de Montréal Law School.

Areas of Practice

  • Mr. Royer is the Regional Leader of the Labour and Employment law group in Montréal and has several years of experience in labour, employment and administrative law.
  • He is also an active member of our Fraud Law Group.

Professional Experience

  • Advises and represents employers on all issues pertaining to labour relations and in litigation involving workers' compensation, employment contracts, collective labour agreements and various labour statutes.
  • In particular, represents employers before civil courts as well as administrative tribunals and arbitration boards in matters of wrongful dismissals, employment conditions, health and safety, workers' compensation, labour relations and human rights. Also has experience in the negotiation of collective agreements.
  • Advises employers on the new laws and on the training of management personnel, on preparing cases relating to occupational health and safety, to disciplinary measures and to all matters of workplace relations.

Professional and Community Activities

  • Member of the Canadian Bar Association
  • Co-author of a book published by Wilson & Lafleur pertaining to the Labour Standards Act in Québec
  • Author of numerous articles for CCH Canadian Limited ('Focus on Employment and Equality Rights')
  • Lecturer for Insight Conferences, Infonex, Canadian Institute and various associations of the business sector
  • In 1997, he was elected on the Montréal Bar Council for a two-year mandate.
  • 1998: President of the Montréal Bar's ad hoc committee on children and employment in Québec
  • Mr. Royer has given numerous lectures on a variety of subjects relating to labour law and has written a number of articles on a variety of labour and employment matters.
  • He regularly provides training to businesses on a variety of employment law topics.
  • 1998-2003: Member of the Board of Directors of L'Escale Notre-Dame, a non-profit organization that provides services for social reinsertion and therapy.
  • 1999-2003: Member of the Organizing Committee for the annual fund-raising campaign of Generations, an organization that has developed services such as Tel-jeunes, Ligne parents and Parentaide.
  • Since his appointment in 1999, Mr. Royer has attended numerous hearings and participated in the drafting of decisions on various cases as a member of the Québec Bar's Disciplinary Committee.
  • 2002-2007: Member of the Board of Directors of La Dauphinelle, a non-profit organization that provides shelter and counseling for women and children who are victims of violence
  • Honorary President in 2005 and 2006 of the Annual Golf Tournament organized on behalf of the Fondation les Amis(es) de la Dauphinelle
  • Since 2005, teacher at the Québec Bar school (Labour and Employment Law section)
  • 2006 and 2007: Member of the Organizing Committee of the Barreau du Québec's annual Convention.
