Background

Robert Weir is a partner in our Toronto office. Robert was admitted to the Ontario Bar in 1998. He graduated from Dalhousie University Law School. Prior to that, he received a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) from the University of Toronto.

Professional Experience

• Robert appears before the courts and a variety of administrative tribunals, including the Ontario Human Rights Tribunal and the Ontario Labour Relations Board, on matters related to unionized and non-unionized employees.
• Robert advises private and public sector employers in labour relations and employment law matters generally, including employee terminations, structuring severance packages, employment contracts, sexual and racial harassment, workers' compensation, employment standards, human rights issues, and employee transfers in corporate transactions.
• Robert has represented the board of education and independent schools on education-related matters, including student rights and discipline, expulsion and suspensions, and school-related litigation and in a number of judicial reviews.

Professional and Community Activities

• Program Co-ordinator and Vice-Chair, Ontario Bar Association (Education Law Section).
• Member, Canadian Association for the Practical Study of Law in Education (CAPSLE).
• Presenter and speaker at various employment and education law conferences, including presenter at the Human Resource Professionals of Ontario 1999 Annual Conference, Education Safety Association of Ontario annual conferences, 2001, 2002 and 2003 CAPSLE Conference and TSSA Annual Conference.
