Background

Christine Collard is a Partner in the Ottawa Office. Christine graduated from the University of New Brunswick with a Bachelor of Science as well as a Bachelor of Laws. Christine was called to the Bar of the Province of Ontario in 1995. She was registered as a Trade-mark Agent in 1995 and as a Canadian Patent Agent in 1997.

Christine is a member of the firm’s National IP Litigation Group and Biotech and Pharmaceutical Group.

• Focuses mainly in the areas of IP litigation, patent prosecution, and opinions, with an emphasis on oil and gas related technology, industrial chemicals, and pharmaceutical and life sciences related technology.
• Has expertise in the areas of strategic IP protection of technologies, obtaining patent protection worldwide and managing international IP portfolios, and enforcing Canadian IP rights.

Professional Experience

• Patented technology in oil and gas areas including SAGD, Vapex, steam and solvent recovery processes, various equipment and tubing used in oil recovery, fracturing and drilling fluids, as well as downstream products.
• Patented pharmaceuticals in the areas of cancer, anticoagulants and pain research while working in-house in the IP department of a Canadian pharmaceutical company and in private practice, patents pharmaceuticals and chemical compounds in all drug areas.
• Involved in patent litigation including patent infringement and expungement proceedings, in both federal and provincial courts.
• Has been involved in IP litigation in all levels of the Courts in Canada including provincial, federal and Supreme Courts.
• Has regulatory experience in food, non-prescription drug products,  and medical devices as well as the Patented Medicine Prices Review Board.
