Background
Michael Patry is a partner at our Montréal office. Mr. Patry was admitted to the Québec Bar in 1980 and is a graduate of the McGill University Law School where he received his Common Law and Civil Law degrees (B.C.L., LL.B.).
Areas of Practice
- Mr. Patry practices in our Corporate and Commercial Law Group and is the Montréal regional contact of the Not-for-Profit Group. He is also responsible for our Montréal office's Québec Commercial Regulatory Practice Group.
- He has been in private practice since 1980.
Professional Experience
- Has been involved in a broad range of commercial transactions including acquisitions, re-organizations, public and private financings as well as the drafting and negotiation of commercial contracts.
- Represents pharmaceutical companies and advises them in respect of federal and provincial legislation and industry codes of conduct and codes of ethics governing pharmaceutical companies with respect to sale, advertising and reimbursement of drugs (formularies) and governing medical professionals and their dealings with pharmaceutical companies.
- Advises clients in respect of the legislation governing professions in Québec generally and in particular in regards to the profession of doctors, nurses, pharmacists, optometrists and architects. Advice has covered, among other, agreements between professionals and non-professionals, code of ethics, professional independence and fee sharing.
- Advises clients in respect of their obligations under the Charter of the French Language, in regards to their business operations and among other, labour matters, marketing materials, advertising and labelling and has been involved in numerous negotiations with representatives of the Office québécois de la langue française.
- Advises clients in respect of their obligations under various regulatory laws dealing, among other things, with pesticides, pharmacy and medical laboratories.
Professional and Community Activities
- Mr. Patry has been a member of the Board of Directors of the Graduate Society of McGill and a member of the McGill Young Alumni. He was President and Vice-president of the latter.
- He is Vice-Chancellor of the Anglican Diocese of Montréal and a member of the Executive of the Montréal Diocesan Theological College.
- Mr. Patry has given various conferences in the area of commercial law and most recently to the Canadian Association of Corporate Counsels.
