The Firm
  • On March 1, 2000, the law firms of Ladner Downs (Vancouver) McMaster Gervais (Montreal), Scott & Aylen (Ottawa), Howard Mackie (Calgary) and Borden & Elliot (Toronto) merged to create a single national firm, Borden Ladner Gervais LLP (BLG).
  • BLG, the largest law firm in Canada, has offices in Montreal, Toronto, Ottawa, Calgary, Vancouver, and Waterloo Region.
  • In July 2002, BLG acquired Armstrong Perkins Hudson LLP, a Calgary-based law firm bringing extensive experience in the corporate securities practice. This firm was the largest securities boutique in Western Canada.
  • In 2003 BLG expanded into the Waterloo area with its acquisition of Armstrong & Associates, an intellectual property law boutique.

Professional Expertise

The American College of Trial Lawyers

Founded in 1950, the American College of Trial Lawyers comprises the best of the trial bar from the United States and Canada. Fellowship in the College is extended by invitation only to experienced trial lawyers who have mastered the art of advocacy and whose professional careers have been marked by the highest standards of ethical conduct, professionalism, civility and collegiality.

Borden Ladner Gervais lawyer David W. Scott, Q.C., is a past President of the American College of Trial Lawyers. BLG is also home to eight fellows.
