BLG Calgary actively encourages all members of the Firm to get involved in the community by providing time off to contribute to a number of community causes related to pro bono legal services, fundraising and volunteer service.
BLG Calgary runs an annual United Way Campaign with the Firm matching employees’ donations. Each Christmas we support five families in Calgary’s “Adopt a Family” program. We run several fundraising campaigns throughout the year to raise money for various local charities and sponsor a number of community events related to causes such as the Calgary Jewish Community Centre Sports Dinner, the Famous Five Foundation Remarkable Women Series, and Student Legal Assistance, among other worthwhile charitable causes.
We proudly support the annual BLG Awards and BLG Reads to Kids program.
BLG Calgary pro bono initiatives include providing free legal advice to the children’s advocate at the local Children’s Legal & Education Resource Centre (CLERC). Other pro bono work includes supporting the Alberta Volunteer Lawyers Service (VLS), which helps not-for-profits access legal services that they would otherwise be unable to pay for, and the Civil Claims Duty Counsel Pro Bono Project which provides individuals with assistance in small claims related matters including summary legal advice, procedural information, help with motions and other appearances and assistance completing forms. BLG Calgary lawyers also volunteer at various pro bono clinics including Calgary Legal Guidance and Pro Bono Students Canada.
In general, the Firm supports causes involving children, literacy, health research and agencies supporting those less fortunate.
