Compensation & Benefits

BLG offers summer and articling students a compensation and benefits program commensurate with what you would expect from a national law firm. Articling student benefits include major medical and dental coverage, life insurance, accidental death & dismemberment and travel insurance when outside Canada and access to the Firm's national Employee Assistance Program. In addition, in keeping with the market in each region, the following are additional benefits:

BLG Calgary

• The firms pays all fees associated with the CPLED program;
• Articling Students receive salary throughout the face-to-face portion of the CPLED program;
• Articling students receive 2 weeks paid vacation at the end of their articling term;
• Long term disability benefits; and
• Articling Students receive a subsidy toward the annual membership of a fitness facility of their choice.

BLG Montreal

• The firm pays articling students their tuition for the École du Barreau as well as the cost of books.

BLG Ottawa

• The firm pays tuition fees for the LSUC Licensing Program: that is, the skills and Professional Responsibility Program and one sitting for each for the licensing examinations;
• Articling students receive their salary pro-rated throughout the Skills and Professional Responsibility Program, and while writing the Licensing Exams;
• Articling students receive 10 days paid vacation;
• Summer students who return for articles receive a tuition bonus; and
• Articling students receive medical, dental, vision, salary continuance and short term disability, basic life insurance, optional life insurance, basic AD&D, business travel insurance, and employee assistance program.

BLG Toronto

• The firm will pay the fees for one sitting for each of the Licensing Examinations;
• Articling students receive salary to study for and write the Barrister and Solicitor Exams;
• Articling and summer students receive a health club membership; and
• Articling students receive 10 days paid vacation and summer students receive 5 days;
• Summer students who return for articles receive a tuition bonus; and
• Articling students receive medical, dental, vision, salary continuance and short term disability, basic life insurance, optional life insurance, basic AD&D, business travel insurance, and employee assistance program.
 

BLG Vancouver

• Articling students receive payment of Professional Legal Training Course tuition fees, in addition to their salary, while taking the course;
• Articling students receive two weeks paid vacation;
• Articling students receive a subsidy toward the annual membership of a fitness facility of their choice;
• Summer students receive one week paid vacation; and
• Summer students who return for articles receive payment of third year tuition fees to a maximum of $7,000.

BLG Waterloo Region

• The firm pays tuition fees for the LSUC Licensing Program: that is, the skills and Professional Responsibility Program and one sitting for each for the licensing examinations;
• Articling students receive their salary pro-rated throughout the Skills and Professional Responsibility Program, and while writing the Licensing Exams;
• Articling students receive 10 days paid vacation;
