Background
Ruth Liu is an associate at our Toronto office. Ruth was admitted to the Ontario Bar in 2006. She graduated from the University of Toronto, Faculty of Law in 2005. Before attending law school, she received a Bachelor of Science (with High Distinction) from the University of Toronto. Ruth is fluent in spoken Cantonese and written Chinese.

Ruth practises in the area of corporate law, specializing in investment funds, investment management, alternative asset management and securities law.
Professional Experience
- advises investment fund managers on legal issues relating to the establishment and
administration of various investment products including retail mutual funds, exchange-traded funds, pooled funds, closed-end funds and flow-through limited partnerships
- advises investment fund managers on the use of derivatives by investment funds and related documents
- advises securities industry participants on registration issues and compliance with corporate and securities laws
- seconded to the Canadian Securities Transition Office to draft regulations for investment funds under the proposed federal Securities Act (January - May 2011)
- seconded to a major asset management company (June - December 2009)
