John O’Toole is a partner at our Ottawa office. He was called to the Bar in Ontario in 1988. Mr. O’Toole received his law degree from the University of Western Ontario, as well as his undergraduate degree in Economics.
Areas of Practice
- Mr. O’Toole practices in the area of commercial litigation, with particular emphasis on banking litigation and bankruptcy and insolvency matters.
Professional Experience
- Mr. O’Toole has a wide experience in all aspects of banking litigation and mortgage remedies, as well as commercial tenancy disputes, construction litigation (including construction liens), shareholder remedies and disputes.
- His client base encompasses financial institutions including chartered banks, major trust companies and insurance companies.
- He also represents major bankruptcy trustee firms, as well as a number of Ottawa area construction companies and commercial landlords.
Professional and Community Activities
- Member of the Law Society of Upper Canada, the Canadian Bar Association (Litigation and Insolvency Sections), and the County of Carleton Law Association.
- Has lectured at LSUC and CCLA Conferences on creditor/debtor and banking litigation topics.
- Is responsible for editing and updating the Bar Admission Course materials on Unsecured Creditors’ Rights and Remedies (Chapter 13).
