Background

Blair Rebane is a partner at our Vancouver office. He is the National Leader of the Franchise and Distribution Group and has extensive experience with advising franchisors in all types of franchise matters. In addition, Blair practices in the area of construction and contract law. His clients include a number of Canada's largest franchisors, manufacturers and those involved at all levels of the construction industry.


Blair received a Bachelor of Arts from the University of British Columbia in 1987, graduated from the University of Alberta with a Bachelor of Laws in 1994, and was admitted to the British Columbia Bar in 1995.

Professional Experience

  • Negotiated, prepared and structured a variety of different franchise and distribution arrangements, such as master franchises, unit franchises, area development agreements, dealerships, distribution agreements and sales agencies.
  • Assisted clients with enforcement and termination of all types of franchise and distribution agreements.
  • Appeared in the Supreme Court of British Columbia, Court of Appeal and Federal Court of Canada on franchise and construction and landlord/tenant matters in order to:
  • Obtain injunctive relief to enforce the terms of franchise and distribution agreements;
  • Recover monies due under franchise, distribution and lease agreements;
  • Enforce non-competition covenants and trade-mark rights;
  • Enforce builders' lien claims by contractors, subcontractors and material suppliers;
  • Recover monies owing to construction sureties under indemnity agreements;
  • Obtain recovery for contractors on delay claims; and
  • Evict tenants and enforce rights under leases.
