Background

Sharon Vogel is a partner in our Toronto office and Regional Leader of the Firm's International Construction Projects Group. Sharon was called to the Ontario Bar in 1993 with an LLB from the University of Toronto (1991). In 1996, Sharon obtained her LLM from the University of Auckland in New Zealand. She obtained her Bachelor of Arts from McMaster University in 1988.

Areas of Practice

  • Sharon practises construction and surety law, working primarily on matters involving construction disputes relating to major projects including roads, railways, tunnels, pipelines, industrial facilities, commercial buildings, and condominiums in various jurisdictions.

Professional Experience

  • Specializes in the negotiation, mediation, arbitration, and litigation of construction disputes including construction liens, trust claims, delay claims, construction insurance claims, and architect's and engineer's errors and omissions.
  • Drafts and negotiates various forms of construction contracts on behalf of owners, developers, general contractors, subcontractors and suppliers.
  • Represents surety bonding companies with respect to claims on construction projects, including performance bond claims and labour and material payment bond claims.
  • Acts on behalf of fidelity bonding companies, rendering opinions, defending claims, and pursuing subrogated actions.
  • Has appeared at all levels of court including the Ontario Superior Court, Court of Appeal, and the Supreme Court of Canada.
