Julia focuses her practice on international trade and foreign corrupt practices. She advises Canadian and international businesses on a wide variety of trade, regulatory, compliance and litigation matters.

This includes:

  • trade remedies (anti-dumping and countervailing duties)

  • anti-corruption laws

  • government and internal investigations

In addition to international trade, Julia is a tested advocate and has significant litigation experience, acting on numerous commercial matters involving securities law, fraud, contractual disputes and white collar defense. Julia has appeared before the Canadian International Trade Tribunal, the Federal Court of Appeal, the Ontario Superior Court of Justice (Civil and Commercial List), the Mutual Fund Dealers Association, the Environmental Review Tribunal and various farm products marketing boards.

Experience

  • Rio Tinto Alcan in a dumping/subsidization investigation hearing before the Canadian International Trade Tribunal relating to silicon metal imported from Thailand, Laos, Malaysia, Norway, Kazakhstan, Brazil and Russia and an expiry review relating to silicon metal from China.
  • A TSXV-listed company in an investigation into violations under the Corruption of Foreign Public Officials Act
  • POSCO and the Canadian Coalition for Construction Steel in a safeguards inquiry before the Canadian International Trade Tribunal relating to a recommendation to the Government of Canada on whether to implement a definitive safeguard measure on certain steel products.
  • Fluor Canada in a judicial review before the Federal Court of Appeal of a decision by the Canadian International Trade Tribunal relating to an injury finding on certain fabricated industrial steel components
  • A large Fortune 500 company in connection with lobbyist registration requirements across Canada
  • A multi-national corporation in connection with regulatory matters in the Canadian the dairy industry
  • An S&P/TSX 60 company in connection with a procurement dispute under the Agreement on Internal Trade and Canadian Free Trade Agreement
