Ramsey is a member of the Corporate Commercial Group. She specializes in Indigenous law matters, working in collaboration with our corporate, real estate, and environmental and regulatory groups.

Ramsey advises private and public companies, as well as provincial and federal governments, on the duty to consult and relationship agreements with First Nations. She regularly works with clients to negotiate permits and easements on a variety of Indigenous land regimes in British Columbia.

Ramsey acts as counsel on complex Treaty rights and Aboriginal title litigation matters. She appears at the Provincial Court and Supreme Court of British Columbia.

As a BLG associate, Ramsey spent time on secondment with a major energy producer.

Experience

  • Assisted in acting for the Federal Crown in the sale or purchase of major assets, including BC Rail and Kinder Morgan Canada (Trans Mountain Pipeline).
  • Counsel to a Crown corporation on a settlement agreement with several First Nations, including right of way documents.
  • Acted for a provincial Crown agency in defending a claim respecting Aboriginal title and the duty to consult.
  • Counsel to a developer in renewal of agreements with First Nations.
  • Assisted in a precedent-setting environmental case, the first trial in B.C. to consider reasonably incurred costs of remediation under B.C. legislation.
