Mélanie defends healthcare and social service establishments in hospital and medical liability proceedings and directors’ and officers’ liability proceedings, including class actions. She regularly pleads before the Québec courts and focuses her practice in the following fields:

  • medical and healthcare professional liability
  • legal psychiatry issues
  • consent to care
  • human rights
  • interpretation of the legislative framework applicable to healthcare establishments and social services
She has served as a lecturer and guest professor, teaching the concepts of medical and hospital professional liability, as well as of the rights of users. She is a co-founding member of the Health Law Section of the Quebec Branch of the Canadian Bar Association.

Experience

  • Pleaded before tribunals and courts of justice, defending healthcare and social service establishments, primarily in civil and professional hospital liability and forensic psychiatry cases.
  • Provides legal advice on healthcare law for staff members of the healthcare network.
  • Provides advice and represents healthcare and social service establishments in major settlement negotiations.
