Ira's practice focuses on corporate finance and, in particular, syndicated lending, banking, corporate lending, commercial lending, project finance, structured finance, acquisition financing, and Personal Property Security Act matters. Ira acts for both lenders and investors, as well as borrowers and issuers, in connection with numerous types of domestic, cross-border, and international debt financings.

Recent transactions have included:

  • major acquisition financings;
  • financing go-private transactions;
  • corporate credits;
  • financings of private-equity takeovers;
  • private placements;
  • bond issuances;
  • cross-border financings;
  • covenant-based financings; and
  • margined financings.

His experience includes financings in various industries ranging from energy, energy services, and pipelines to agriculture, financial services, aviation financings and the food industry.

Ira's transactions range from investment grade and covenant-based financings, to energy reserves and accounts and inventory margining facilities, to demand credit facilities.

Ira provides legal services through a Law Corporation.

  • Acting for HSBC as the Agent in representing the syndicate of banks in the Calfrac CBCA Filing. Also acting for HSBC in numerous Court applications in Alberta and Texas. And acting for HSBC in closing the refinancing.
  • The lenders to Potash Corporation of Saskatchewan Inc. in connection with its US$3.5 billion credit facility
  • Birchcliff Energy with respect to its senior secured credit facilities in the aggregate amount of $950 million
  • The lenders to Parkland Fuel Corporation in connection with its senior secured credit facilities in the aggregate amount of $450 million
  • Calfrac Well Services in connection with its senior secured credit facilities in the aggregate amount of $400 million
  • Enbridge Inc. in connection with a $3.465 billion syndicated credit facility, a $2.35 billion syndicated credit facility and a US$2.25 billion syndicated credit facility
  • The lenders to AGT Food and Ingredients. in connection with its senior secured credit facilities in the aggregate amount of $400 million
  • Crescent Point Energy Corp. in connection with its senior unsecured credit facilities in the aggregate amount of $2.1 billion and senior unsecured notes in the aggregate amounts of US$830 million and C$142 million
  • Surge Energy Inc. in connection with its senior secured credit facilities in the aggregate amount of $430 million
  • Enbridge Pipelines Inc. in connection with a $300 million syndicated credit facility
  • Enbridge Income Fund in connection with syndicated credit facilities in the aggregate amount of $500 million
  • Enbridge Inc. in connection with its guarantee of various credit facilities of Enbridge (U.S.) Inc. and in connection with Enbridge (U.S.) Inc.’s US$2.1 billion commercial paper program
  • The lenders to Baytex Energy Trust in connection with its $490 million senior secured credit facilities
