Kim Maguire



In her tax law practice, Kim advises business clients in a range of sectors, including mining, cannabis, technology, investment management and real estate.

She has experience in the following tax-driven matters:

  • mergers and acquisitions involving public and private companies
  • reorganization and financing transactions involving Canadian companies and their foreign subsidiaries
  • structures for international clients conducting business in Canada
  • structures for Canadian companies with international operations
  • establishing investment and mortgage funds

Kim is Co-Chair of the Vancouver Student Recruitment Committee and is currently serving on the Executive of the Canadian branch of the International Fiscal Association as Secretary.


  • Tax counsel to Imperial Metals Corporation on its sale of a 70% interest in the Red Chris mine in British Columbia to Newcrest Mining Limited for US$806.5 million and a follow-on joint venture between the parties for the ongoing operation of the Red Chris mine in 2019.
  • Tax counsel to Pan American Silver Corp. on the acquisition of Tahoe Resources Inc. for $1.288 billion in 2019.
  • Tax counsel to Rubicon Organics Inc. on an internal reorganization, financings and going public in 2018 and 2019.
  • Tax counsel to Government of Canada on the $4.5 billion acquisition of the Trans Mountain and Puget Sound Pipelines, and related terminals in 2018.
