Maryama is a summer student at BLG’s Vancouver office for the 2021 summer term. She is looking forward to her disputes rotation, and has an interest in labour and employment.
As a law student, Maryama volunteered with Pro Bono Students Canada, held an executive position in the Women of Color Legal Alliance of Windsor and worked as an Editorial Assistant for an international law journal. Maryama plans to spend her final year of law school continuing to be active as a volunteer and peer mentor, as well as participating in an exchange semester in Lucerne, Switzerland.
During her undergrad, Maryama was a writing tutor at the University of Alberta’s Centre for Writers, where she worked with students with diverse needs. Prior to law school, she acted as a client services facilitator at C5 North East Hub, a nonprofit collective in Edmonton, where she worked closely with marginalized communities.
Maryama chose BLG because of its commitment to mentorship and community, as well as its structured summer program. BLG not only values its students but gives students an excellent opportunity to learn about many different areas of law.
In her spare time, Maryama enjoys travelling, spending time with friends and family, and learning new recipes.
