Matti is a partner with over 15 years of experience. She is a highly experienced advocate in court and practices in all areas of commercial litigation. Matti regularly appears in court, with many reported decisions. She has represented parties in both domestic and international litigation and arbitration, and is very adept at navigating cross-border matters and appeals. She assists clients in a range of industry sectors, including intellectual property, oil and gas, construction, banking and insolvency, environmental, real property, utilities, insurance, mining and others. Her practice includes representing clients in disputes and compliance matters in shareholder and partnership disputes, fraud, oil and gas interests, securities, project specific disputes, environmental contamination, debts, contested insolvency proceedings, copyright, trademark and confidential information.

Matti has represented parties before all levels of court in Canada, including all levels in Alberta and the Federal Courts, and in British Columbia, Ontario, Nova Scotia, all levels in the Falkland Islands, and the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council. She has acted as counsel in high-value and complex private and investor-state international arbitrations under ad hoc and institutional rules including ICC, LCIA, UNCITRAL, under treaties including NAFTA, WTO-TRIPS and Berne Convention and in domestic arbitrations under ADRIC rules. Matti is the Environmental Group leader at BLG Calgary. She is a director of the ADR Institute of Canada.

  • Representing clients in various insolvency matters, including the monitor in cross-border restructurings, the receiver in various Alberta receiverships and creditors in various Canadian insolvency proceedings.
  • Representing clients before the ICC International Court of Arbitration.
  • Representing international oil & gas companies in environmental contamination disputes.
  • Representing clients in relation to intellectual property disputes, including copyright infringement, breach of confidentiality and trademark infringement.
  • Representing clients on environmental aspects of transactions.
