Elena is an experienced litigator that handles highly sensitive matters for her clients concerning civil and estate litigation, including cross-border litigation, enforcement of foreign judgements, status of limitations on enforcements on foreign judgements, and alternative dispute resolution. Elena has extensive experience with judicial mediation in Europe and the United States.

She is also experienced in plaintiff-side of class actions, including:

  • Angelina Rivers, et al. v. Waterloo Regional Police Services Board, et al.– a class action commenced by female police officers for systemic and institutional gender-based discrimination, sexual harassment and sexual assault.
  • Todd Ross, et al. v. Her Majesty the Queen – a class action against the federal government for harmful campaigns of discrimination against the LGBT community, also known as the LGBT purge.

Elena frequently appears before numerous courts in Ontario, including Ontario Court of Appeal.

Prior to joining BLG, Elena served as an International Legal Adviser at the Trial and Appeal Chambers of The Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina prosecuting war crimes, genocide and crimes against humanity. She also assisted in prosecuting transnational organized crimes.

  • Represents clients in connection with will challenges, trustee/executor negligence, passing of accounts, guardianship of property and persons applications, executor disputes, dependent relief claims, and power of attorney disputes.
  • Represents clients in connection with enforcement of judgements obtained in the USA, the UK, Sweden, Netherlands, and other countries.
  • Represent clients in connection with civil fraud matters and oppression remedies.
