Najma is a Summer Student at BLG’s Ottawa office for the 2021 summer term. She is focusing on Disputes and Corporate law.
As a law student, Najma volunteers with the Black Business Law Clinic, Law in Action within Schools (LAWS) and the Justice for Abdirahman Coalition. Prior to joining BLG, Najma worked for various non-for-profit community organizations in Ottawa including, Pinecrest-Queensway Community Health Centre and the Elizabeth Fry Society. Most recently, Najma worked as a Division Leader at Osgoode’s Community Legal Aid and Services Program (CLASP). She represented low-income clients charged with criminal offences at the Ontario Court of Justice.
Najma chose to work at BLG because of the firm’s commitment to providing students with meaningful exposure to a wide range of practice areas. After meeting members of the firm, Najma was pleased to learn about BLG’s tradition of pro-bono service and was particularly impressed by many of the student-led community initiatives. It was clear that Najma could balance her interests in disputes and community leadership at BLG.
In her free time, Najma enjoys spending time with her family, playing board games, trying new foods and bike riding.
