Matthew is an articling student at BLG’s Toronto office with a focus on financial services law.

Prior to joining BLG, Matthew spent nearly eight years at the Bank of Canada and Finance Canada, where he held increasingly senior roles working on a variety of policy, legislative, and regulatory matters in the financial services space.

In 2021, Matthew was awarded the Bank of Canada Award of Excellence for Innovation for his role as one of the architects of the nascent Retail Payments Supervisory Framework, including the Retail Payment Activities Act and proposed Retail Payment Activities Regulations.

In 2022, he was awarded the Bank of Canada Award of Excellence for Thinking Ahead for his contributions to advancing the Canadian regulatory response to digital assets, including helping federal and provincial agencies identify gaps in current regulatory regimes and develop policy options for legislative changes.

Matthew is eager to put his subject-matter expertise, strategic mindset, and knack for problem-solving into practice at BLG.
