Shanna is a summer student at BLG’s Toronto office for the 2020 summer term. She is focusing on business law.
As a law student, Shanna volunteers with Accès Justice Access, a bilingual legal information centre, at Dalhousie Legal Aid for the Tenants’ Rights Project, and for the Dalhousie Journal of Legal Studies as a Copy Editor. Prior to joining BLG, Shanna worked at the Toronto General Hospital as a Clinical Research Coordinator and Research Analyst for multiple large-scale research initiatives and clinical trials in the field of cardiovascular sciences. During this time, she volunteered as an Alumni Mentor for the University of Toronto Faculty of Arts and Science, and held the position of Alumni Lead for her alma mater’s Student-Faculty-Alumni Engagement Committee.
Shanna chose to work at BLG after having the chance to meet many of the firm’s students, associates and partners during the in-firm process and witnessing firsthand how community and team oriented BLG is. Furthermore, BLG’s expertise in Corporate Health and Technology law drew her to the firm as her goal is to bridge her scientific background with her legal practice.
In Shanna’s spare time you can find her on long distance bike rides taking her to the outskirts of the GTA, or simply cycling around the city visiting one of Toronto’s many parks, as well as hiking, running or practicing yoga. In the evenings she loves to check out a movie, some live music or hit up a rooftop patio with some friends. While studying law in Halifax, Shanna took up surfing in the chilly Atlantic Ocean and joined her school’s intramural volleyball and rock-climbing teams. She also loves animals and volunteers her time at various animal shelters and rescue organizations.
