In honour of National Indigenous Peoples Day, please join us as we welcome Jesse Thistle, author of the national best selling memoir "From the Ashes".

His talk “Through the Machine” will detail one indigenous man’s journey through Canadian shelters, the jail system and substance rehabilitation.

With the burden of intergenerational trauma, addiction and loss of hope, Jesse Thistle rose from the ashes to become a professor, bestselling author and indigenous advocate.

Before discovering his path, Canada’s jail and substance rehabilitation systems directed Jesse’s life. In this keynote, Jesse discusses system gaps that perpetuate inherited trauma, demonstrating the lasting effects of colonization on a culture, a family, and a man. Jesse will tell his story of how these systems failed him, and the desperate measures he had to take to make them work and to find his road to recovery.
