On December 2, 2021 Bill 27, the Working for Workers Act, 2021, received royal assent. Bill 27 amends a number of employment-related statutes and introduces significant changes for Ontario employers, including introducing mandatory disconnecting-from-work policies and creating an express prohibition on non-competition agreements for most employees. The current government has not stopped there, announcing on December 9, 2021 that it is exploring recommendations to improve working conditions for gig economy workers.
