Amendments to the Act respecting the protection of personal information in the private sector, which will come into effect on September 22, 2022, will require the appointment of a “privacy officer” charged with ensuring compliance with this Act and other relevant Canadian laws if the enterprise has operations in other provinces. In addition to being responsible for the approval of their business’ new privacy practices and policies, these officers will also assist with privacy impact assessments (PIA), assessments of prejudice following a confidentiality breach, and the recording of all incidents.

At the request of several clients, we are happy to offer an in-person practical training session – in both English and French, depending on the topic – in order to help privacy officers better understand the legal frameworks in Québec and Canada as well as the related legal and business risks they should watch out for. This 3-hour training aims to provide specific advice regarding risk management and efficiency.

Participants will have the opportunity to meet members of our Privacy & Data Protection team and ask questions. A networking cocktail will follow the session.

QC | Please note, the concept of "recognition" or "accreditation" has been abolished. By doing this, the Barreau is trying to make it easier for lawyers to claim mandatory CLE credits without a formal accreditation process. It is now up to individual lawyers to determine the eligibility of a training activity and to declare the hours in their “Dossier de formation en ligne”.
