BLG gives back during COVID-19

At BLG, our culture is rooted in our people, in our commitment to our clients and in our involvement in our communities. The communities in which we live and work occupy a critically important place in our lives. As a firm, we support nearly 200 charities across Canada each year, through financial donations, pro bono work and volunteer contributions.

In the current time of need for so many, I am inspired by the grassroots fundraising and volunteer initiatives happening in every one of our BLG offices across Canada. Whether it was our team mobilizing to provide lunch to the Calgary and Area Child Advocacy Centre (CCAC), or our articling students getting together to raise funds to help hospitals deal with the current health crisis.

I’ve seen how motivated we are at BLG to give back, which is why we’ve created BLG Cares, to make it easier for firm members to get involved in our communities and connect you with other ways to get involved.

While our community involvement begins at the grassroots level, it also extends to providing leadership and expertise to our local organizations. In this vein, I am pleased to celebrate the recent appointment of Beth Reimer-Heck, our Calgary Counsel, to the position of Co-Chair of the United Way 2020-21 Campaign in Calgary. Given the very real and profound way in which COVID-19 has impacted lives across this country, United Way plays an important role in assisting our communities through this time of crisis.

While the effects of this crisis are certainly felt by all of us, they without doubt disproportionately impact our frontline and healthcare workers. In order to provide immediate assistance to these individuals, the BLG Foundation has made a monetary donation to The Frontline Fund which represents Canadian hospital foundations dealing with COVID-19 across the country.

Recognizing the immense need by individuals and families across Canada, the Foundation has also made a donation to Food Banks Canada.

At BLG, we recognize that we must each do what we can to support each other and our communities as we navigate this crisis together.

Please be well and stay safe.
