BLG donates $50,000 to History and Heroes Alberta Foundation

Calgary (November 18, 2022) — Borden Ladner Gervais LLP (BLG) is donating $50,000 to the History and Heroes Alberta Foundation to advance its mission of engaging students, educators and public and spotlight the history and heritage of Alberta.

The Foundation is the legacy of The Honourable Lois Mitchell and her late husband, former BLG co-Chair, Douglas Mitchell, K.C. The announcement was made at a memorial hosted to celebrate the life of Douglas Mitchell, held at the firm’s Calgary office on November 8, 2022.

“This donation reinforces our longstanding commitment to our communities and to Alberta,” said Alan Ross, K.C., Regional Managing Partner of BLG Calgary. “We share the Foundation’s values of honesty, respect, tolerance, inclusivity, integrity and compassion, and believe in celebrating the heroes of all stripes who have contributed to the rich history of this province.”

“Doug was a true Canadian icon and leader in the community as well the business, sports, and legal worlds nationwide,” said John Murphy, National Managing Partner and CEO. Douglas Mitchell was instrumental in the foundation of BLG and was a leader in the merger that led to the Firm’s inception in 2000.

In addition to our involvement in the History and Heroes Alberta Foundation, BLG has a rich history of supporting our communities in Alberta, such as through the Luna Child and Youth Advocacy Centre, the Calgary Food Bank, the Alberta Council of Women’s Shelters, the Calgary Homeless Foundation, and many others, as well as being the principal sponsor of the 2022 National Pro Bono Conference in Calgary.
