Lilia is in-house counsel to the Firm, with a focus on risk and conflicts.

Lilia is a skilled litigator with diverse expertise in various areas of law. Lilia now applies her advocacy experience and skills to advising colleagues on professional responsibility, ethics and conflicts of interest. She supports the Intake and Conflicts team. She assists in advising on risk management within the Firm, including on info security, insurance, and regulatory compliance. She also assists in professional development and training within the Firm.

Lilia has extensive experience in civil litigation matters, which she gained working with institutional clients in private practice as well as by acting as in-house counsel both for a major retailer and insurance company. She acted for clients on matters involving:

  • product liability
  • occupiers’ liability
  • professional negligence
  • subrogation
  • transportation law
  • coverage disputes
  • risk management

Just prior to joining BLG, her practice was focused on acting on behalf of insurance companies in complex tort claims and coverage disputes.

Lilia has regularly appeared before the Ontario Superior Court of Justice and assisted in matters before the Ontario Court of Appeal.

Lilia acted regularly as counsel for insurers both as external and in-house counsel defending claims brought against insureds and providing opinions respecting OAP, CGL and E&O policy and coverage issues.

Lilia acted for pharmacists and brokers in defending professional negligence claims.

Lilia acted for large retailers in occupiers’ liability, transportation law, product liability claims and advising on risk mitigation and management issues.

Lilia pursued subrogation claims on behalf of insurers against third parties that caused a loss to the insured.

Lilia is fluent in both English and Russian.

Lilia has a passion for people and professional growth. She has regularly acted a mentor to junior lawyers and students. As a prior member of the Student Committee, she assisted in organizing, implementing, and participating in the student recruitment process.

Lilia regularly participated in organizing and presenting at educational seminars for colleagues and clients.
