Health Law Group Spotlight: Meghan Payne

The Health Law Group is delighted to welcome Senior Associate Meghan Payne, who returns after a rewarding and transformative year of maternity leave spent with her son Owen. Those who have worked with Meghan know she is a reliable source of quick, smart advice. Her return is a huge boon for our mental health team, for which she has long been an integral leader.

If you would like to speak to Meghan she would be happy to hear from you at 416-367-6631 or [email protected].

We took the occasion of Meghan’s return to sit down with her and see what she most enjoyed about her leave — and what she’s most looking forward to her on return.

1. What has been the biggest change you’ve noticed in the health sector since returning from leave?

The health care sector is evolving rapidly, with new regulatory frameworks and technologies changing the way our clients deliver care. This is creating a new frontier of legal challenges for health law lawyers to navigate. I think the use of artificial intelligence to analyze the data available in electronic health records is looking to be particular challenging (and interesting), as more organizations make the switch to a fully electronic record.

2. What are you most excited for on your return to practice?

Working with my dedicated and caring colleagues to help our health care clients. A close second is drinking an entire cup of coffee while it’s still hot!

3. What was the highlight of your leave?

Travelling to PEI and sharing my love of the outdoors with my son while hiking the Greenwich Dunes in PEI National Park.

4. What is the most interesting book you have read recently?

Where the Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak. [Ed note: We understand that baby Owen strongly seconded this answer.]
