On March 31, 2017 at 11:59 pm Kingston General Hospital (KGH) and Religious Hospitallers of Saint Joseph of the Hotel Dieu of Kingston (HDH) transferred all their respective assets and liabilities to a newly incorporated public hospital known as Kingston Health Sciences Centre (KHSC), except that HDH leased rather than transferred ownership of its real property to KHSC pursuant to long term ground leases in order to maintain the Catholic healthcare mission at HDH sites.

This integration, the result of two years of collaboration between KGH and HDH and the development of a novel governance structure that enables site-specific approaches to Secular/Catholic healthcare, is one that has been noted as a model that can be emulated elsewhere in the province.

BLG represented HDH and the newly formed KHSC, with a team that was led by Anne Corbett and Nick Pasquino that included Pierre Permingeat, Stephen Nguyen and Alex Belozorovich(Corporate), Daphne Jarvis,Lydia Wakulowsky and Heather Pessione (Health Law, Freedom of Religion, and Medical Assistance in Dying Issues), Rob Weir, James Fuand and Maddie Axelrod (Labour and Employment), Patrick Hawkins, Bonnie Freedman (Privacy, Personal Health Information, Professional Staff Integration and Physician Privileges Issues), Pamela Cross, Janet Kasun and Ryma Nasrallah (Tax), Brennan Carroll and Andrew Guerrisi (Real Property), Kathleen Lemieux and Brandon Evenson (IP), and Arthur Fish (Charitable Gifts and Bequest Issues).
