Éloïse Gratton chosen as one of WXN's most powerful women in Canada

National Privacy & Data Protection co-leader receives CIBC Trailblazers & Trendsetters Award at Top 100 Awards

Toronto (November 23, 2018) — Borden Ladner Gervais LLP (BLG) partner Éloïse Gratton has been named as one of the Women’s Executive Network’s Most Powerful Women in Canada, at the 2018 Top 100 Awards.

Éloïse received the CIBC Trailblazers & Trendsetters award for her pioneering work in privacy law. As the National Co-Leader of the firm’s Privacy & Data Protection Group, her standout career as a technology and privacy lawyer for two decades has led her to be recognized as one of the top privacy lawyers in Canada. Previously, Éloïse has also been acknowledged with a Lexpert Zenith Award in 2017, by Canadian Lawyer Magazine in 2016 as one of the "Top 25 Most Influential Lawyers in Canada" and with a Canadian Legal Blog Award in 2014.

Éloïse published one of the first privacy and technology books over fifteen years ago and holds an international doctorate degree in privacy law from the University of Paris II and the Université de Montréal with honors. Her advice is regularly sought out by multinationals, the federal government, both federal and provincial privacy commissions, and her publications have been quoted by the Supreme Court of Canada in many ground-breaking technology and privacy related decisions.

As a leader both within the firm and the wider Canadian legal community, Éloïse’s practice continues to be one of the most innovative in Canada. She manages one of the largest privacy practices in Canada and represents clients from various industrial sectors on legal, practical and ethical issues relating to information technology, privacy protection, big data analytics, and artificial intelligence, providing them with strategic advice on matters of risk management, ethics, and regulatory compliance. She regularly offers advice as to best business practices, conducting privacy audits or privacy impact assessments and assists clients in crisis management situations.

The WXN’s Top 100 Awards are presented annually and identify and celebrate exceptional Canadian women business professionals. Recipients are nominated by either their firms or their clients, and winners are selected by an advisory board. This year’s winners were celebrated at a gala in Toronto on November 22, 2018.
