BLG named Canada’s Best Diversity Employer for the fourth year in row

National (March 8, 2022) — For the fourth year in a row, Borden Ladner Gervais LLP (BLG) has been named one of Canada’s Best Diversity Employers by Mediacorp Canada Inc.

As Canada’s Law Firm, our clients want to be represented by diverse teams, and our employees expect their workplace to accept, respect and support them, regardless of gender, gender identity, race, religion, disability or sexual orientation.

BLG has a robust Diversity & Inclusion program and is the first Canadian law firm to introduce a full-time dedicated role to advance diversity and inclusion. Our D&I team proactively reviews all policies, processes and practices to eliminate barriers and develops initiatives to support inclusion.

“We are delighted to be receiving this recognition for the fourth year in a row,” said Laleh Moshiri, our National Director of Diversity and Inclusion. “It is a result of the commitment and efforts of all of our firm members who wish to create an inclusive workplace where everyone feels that they belong.”

Stronger Together

BLG is committed to prioritizing action over words. In order to address the legacy of, and educate on the topic of, systemic racism, we uphold mandatory anti-Black and anti-Asian racism training. As part of our commitment to reconciliation, the CBA’s “The Path: Your Journey Through Indigenous Canada,” is available to all Firm members. We also offer Bystander Intervention training to equip our firm members to stand up to acts of harassment and hate.

To continue fostering an inclusive environment, BLG offers an affinity mentorship program for students who identify as LGBTQA+- and we celebrate Pride in all of our regions. In addition, our Transgender Accommodation and Inclusivity Policy provides guidance on supporting, respecting, and accommodating Trans individuals, and preventing harassment and discrimination on the basis of gender identity and expression. We work to build an environment that is inclusive for all, from our all gender washrooms to encouraging the use of pronouns in signature lines.

BLG’s Driven By Women™ is a national program, which offers women in business and law a platform to connect and share ideas, and collaborate with community partners to amplify women’s voices and provide resources necessary for success.

BLG D&I initiatives include training and education, support for parental leaves, action committees, diversity-themed celebrations, and tracking and reporting on progress.
