In his intellectual property (IP) law practice, Todd delivers practical IP advice and patent services aligned with clients' business objectives, market differentiators, and product development lifecycles.
For his clients, he:
- Contributes business-focused IP advice to support clients in deciding whether to seek patent protection or maintain trade secrets.
- Prepares and prosecutes patent applications in Canada and the United States for electronic, wireless, medical device, and mechanical technologies.
- Advises on IP components of M&A and financing transactions.
- Prepares and prosecutes industrial design applications in Canada and the United States.
- Performs patent validity and infringement analysis, and conducts patentability searches.
- Drafts and negotiates agreements: licensing agreements, IP assignments, collaborative/sponsored research agreements, white label agreements, and supply agreements.
- Advises on IP ownership in employment, research, and licensing arrangements.
Todd also has experience advising federal cannabis licence holders on regulatory compliance, including M&A transactions, import and export, and change of control.
