Members of our Privacy and Data Protection Group will be attending the International Association of Privacy Professionals ("IAPP") Global Privacy Summit 2018 in Washington, DC.
Éloïse Gratton will be interviewing Isabella Falque-Pierrotin on March 27, 2018 from 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm EST. A description of this much anticipated session follows.
In more than six years as president of the French Data Protection Authority ("CNIL") and four years as Chairwoman of the Article 29 Working Party, Isabelle Falque-Pierrotin has led transformative change and growth of both French and European data protection law. She has issued countless opinions and guidelines, conducted cross-border investigations and enforcement actions against some of the largest companies in the world, and seen data protection authorities emerge as powerful regulators of the digital age. In this session, leading Canadian lawyer Eloïse Gratton interviews the CNIL president about the impending implementation deadline for GDPR, the legislative process on the draft ePrivacy Regulation and the enforcement of the EU-U.S. Privacy Shield. How will the European Data Protection Board ("EDPB") differ from the Article 29 Working Party? Will enforcement activity focus on U.S.-based multinationals or will European SMEs be affected as well? How will data protection standards be kept as trade and data flows shift to China and India, both of which lack comprehensive data protection regulation? How will the ad tech companies that fuel the Internet economy adjust to increasingly strict consent requirements? And how will privacy react to a dizzying array of technological developments in areas such as artificial intelligence ("AI"), connected cars and smart cities?
What you’ll take away:
- A unique opportunity to hear from a leading European data protection regulator
- Discussion of how to address the GDPR implementation date — and the day after May 25, 2018
- An opportunity to ask the head of the body of European regulators questions about the policy and practice of data protection law
