When the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) was officially established, it documented the history and lasting impacts of the Canadian residential school system on Indigenous students and their families. Its final report included 94 calls to action regarding reconciliation between Canadians and Indigenous Peoples. For the business sector, this meant adopting the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples as a framework for corporate policies and operations. Other sectors also have critical areas to address, such as implementing laws and access to justice, addressing access to capital markets, and improving inclusion in academic institutions. Ten years later, what progress has been made to advance these sectors for all Canadians?
To acknowledge our commitment to the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, BLG will host a webinar with eight Indigenous leaders, each contributing to a stronger Canada and involved in furthering the TRC’s 94 calls to action in their own ways. Join us for an engaging conversation with Cherie Brant, National Leader, Indigenous Law, moderating.
Our panelists include:
- Clint Davis, CEO, Cedar Leaf Capital Inc.
- Mihskakwan James Harper, Business Development Manager, NRStor Inc.
- Katherine Koostachin, Vice President, Indigenous Relations & Reconciliation, Sussex Strategy Group
