BLG Welcomes New Partner In Financial Services

Christine Mason joins BLG's Toronto office

Toronto (August 14, 2017) — Borden Ladner Gervais LLP (BLG) is pleased to announce that Christine Mason has joined the Banking and Financial Services Group as a partner in the Firm's Toronto office.

Ms. Mason's practice focuses on financing and insolvency transactions. She joins a growing list of lawyers at BLG who practice both lending and insolvency, bringing complementary skills from one practice to the other. Ms. Mason represents lenders and corporate borrowers in domestic and international transactions, including bi-lateral and syndicated loans, acquisition financing, project financing, asset-based lending and real estate financing, and acts for creditors, debtors, trustees and receivers in restructuring and insolvency matters. Her insolvency experience allows her to focus on key aspects of negotiating loan transactions, while her lending experience greatly assists in spotting any security issues in insolvency matters.

"I am pleased that Christine has chosen to join BLG as a partner in the Financial Services Group," said Sean Weir, BLG's national managing partner and CEO. "Her legal expertise along with her international experience will further strengthen our remarkable group."

"Christine is a welcome addition to our team," stated Donald Bird, National Practice Group Leader of the Banking and Financial Services Group. “Her comprehensive experience in lending and insolvency and her legal acumen will benefit the group and the Firm's clients."

Ms. Mason is a graduate of De Montfort University in England, where she received her post-graduate diploma in Law in 1998. She received an LLM from the University of Nottingham in 1999. She was admitted to the England & Wales Bar in 2002 and the Ontario Bar in 2009. Ms. Mason originally trained and qualified at a leading U.K. law firm.

BLG's Financial Services Group offers a distinctive client-focused approach to the practice of law. The Group acts as counsel to all of Canada's largest banks and to many of Canada's other leading financial institutions, including Schedule I, II and III banks, insurance companies, credit unions, and pension and other funds, as well as to many US and other foreign financial institutions.
