Project Name: George Brown Waterfront
Project Sector: Education
Client: George Brown College
The project has been described as transformative of the Toronto skyline, an exposed 10 storey, 16,260 sq m wood (“mass-timber”) structure that will incorporate solar wind chimney systems to capture light and air for natural ventilation and ground source geothermal energy for heating and cooling. It will serve as an educational hub for George Brown College and will also include a Tall Wood Research Institute. The structure is believed to represent an important step forward in the development of large span mass wooden structures, and is the first project of its kind in Canada.
BLG supported George Brown College in its bid to obtain unanimous approval for a suite of variances required to proceed with a project.
