Jeff Gordon



Jeff's practice focuses on intellectual property (IP) litigation, including contentious patent, trademark and copyright matters.

Jeff is a lawyer, patent agent and trademark agent. In addition to his litigation practice, he advises on:

  • trademark prosecution, oppositions and cancellation proceedings
  • patent prosecution and portfolio management
  • patent invalidity and infringement opinions
  • IP due diligence related to business transactions

With a background in civil engineering, Jeff works with a broad range of patent clients with respect to civil, mechanical, industrial, chemical and electrical inventions.

Jeff also advises trademark clients in many sectors, including automotive, cosmetics, electrical transformers, foods and beverages, and professional services. 

Jeff has acted as counsel in several proceedings before the Federal and Ontario Courts, and the Trademarks Opposition Board.

Jeff is on the Leadership Board of the Intellectual Property Owners Association (IPO) Emerging Technologies Committee. He also serves as an Ambassador to new members of IPO.


  • Domex Superfresh Growers Growers, LLC ats. Give and Go Prepared Foods Corp., Federal Court File No. T-1559-18: defending a trademark infringement action related to the sale and distribution of fruit products.
  • The Estate of Bryan Nash Gill v. 1923265 Ontario Inc. d.b.a. Backhouse, Federal Court File No. T-266-19: representing the estate of an artist asserting copyright infringement against a restaurant company.
  • Atlantic Lottery Corporation et al. ats. Safe Gaming System, Federal Court Decision 2018 FC 542: Successfully defended a patent infringement trial involving video lottery terminal technology, with costs of $1.175M awarded to the successful defendants (2018 FC 871); appeal and cross-appeal discontinued (A-184-18, A-271-18).
  • Chocoladefabriken Lindt and Spüngli AG et al. v. Les Chocolats Vadeboncoeur Inc., Federal Court File Nos. T-514-16 and T-608-16: trademark infringement and invalidity applications related to distinguishing guise and word trademarks in association with chocolate products.
  • Manage the Canadian trademark portfolio for a global cosmetics company.
  • Manage the international trademark portfolio for an electrical transformer manufacturer.
  • Global patent portfolio management for a manufacturer of automated assembly equipment.
